The harvest is coming in hot right now at the winery—and Director of Winemaking Jeremy Leffert is here to give you the inside scoop. When Jeremy isn’t making great wine, you can find him playing guitar, cooking up good food and…well, you’ll just have to wait until the last question to learn about his most surprising pastime.
How is harvest looking this season?
It’s looking like an awesome vintage from a quality perspective. Yields are slightly below average, which is good considering the long, relatively cool growing season.
What wine are you most excited about?
If I had to pick, I’d say I’m really excited about our Grenache. The berry sizes are small, which translates to intense flavors.
What surprised you about this season?
It was cool in Paso Robles. Through mid-August it was the coolest vintage I can remember. Then Mother Nature made up for lost time, and we’ve since had some heat waves that have accelerated the pace of ripening.
What do you look forward to each season?
I look forward to the birth of new wines and comparisons to previous memories and vintages.
Any harvest superstitions or routines?
I eat Lime Chili Chicken Cup of Noodles every day during harvest.
What's in your glass right now?
Châteauneuf du Pape. Maybe that’s why I’m so excited about our Grenache.
