Texture: Juicy and vivacious with staying power on the finish

The 2022 Gamay Noir presents a fresh, heady nose of plum, black raspberry and tobacco. The palate is juicy and vivacious, bursting with flavors of rounded olallieberry, early-picked blackberry, tomato leaf and violets. Tart, lively acidity brings energy and staying power to the finish. A serious cool-climate rendition of Gamay Noir, crafted in the spirit of Cru Beaujolais.
Tooth & Nail owner-winegrower Rob Murray planted Murmur Vineyard in the Santa Maria Valley in 2008. Murmur Vineyard occupies an ultra-coastal terroir that lies at the extremes of cool-climate winemaking, just 13 miles from the Pacific Ocean. Here, the Gamay Noir grape gains dark brambly flavors while maintaining high acidity. In 2022, the Gamay Noir grapes were hand-harvested in the cool morning hours of October 3. The fruit was destemmed and fermented with native yeasts in 500-liter headless French oak puncheons over a period of eight days—a labor-intensive method designed to create a pure and textural expression of the Gamay Noir grape. After gentle pressing, the wine was racked to neutral French oak barrels. After eight months of barrel maturation, it was bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Stasis wines focus on coastal expressions of both renowned and obscure grape varieties. They pay homage to the Stasis Theory, a truth-seeking discipline first practiced by the great philosophers and orators of ancient Greece. Between the physical and metaphysical, there is Stasis — a balanced state of being.
