Undeniably driven by Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2021 vintage of The Possessor is loaded with aromas of plum, black cherry, black olive, pencil shaving and purple flowers. The palate is deep, engulfing and seamless with blackberry, cassis, forest earth and minerality.
Dried Provençale herbs and lifted acidity carry into a long, silky finish. While approachable now, this potent blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (79%), Petitie Sirah (12%), Malbec (6%) and Petit Verdot (3%) will also reward careful cellaring for up to the next 12 years.
The 2021 vintage of The Possessor is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (79%), Petite Sirah(12%), Malbec (6%) and Petit Verdot (3%) from the Tooth & Nail estate in the Willow Creek District and Chaparral Vineyard in the El Pomar District.
After night harvesting, each varietal lot was destemmed and fermented separately in a mix of 42 hectoliter oak foudres, stainless steel tanks and concrete tanks. Primary fermentation spanned seven to 10 days until each lot achieved ideal phenolic composition.
After pressing, the wines were barreled down for the balance of fermentation and aging. The Bordeaux varieties were aged for 12 months in French oak barriques(35% new oak), while the Rhône varieties were aged in 500-liter French oak puncheons. The final blend was raised in stainless steel for an additional three months prior to being bottled unfiltered.
